It is essentially vegetarian
This is an extremely rare monkey, in a critical state, which lives only on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi (Celebes).
The animals housed at Pairi Daiza are part of a European reproduction programme intended to preserve a healthy and genetically varied population within the world’s various zoos.
Even though it is essentially vegetarian, the Sulawesi Crested Macaque sometimes eats aquatic creatures such as crabs and snails.
To communicate with its fellow creatures, this monkey possesses, rather than of a range of cries, a range of expressions and facial mimicry, for example in order to greet, warn, intimidate or humiliate the other.
This is extremely interesting behaviour to observe when you’re face to face with it, behind the glass.
